Info and History of Latex Rubber Uses
Our mattresses are produced using today's best practices, whereby the liquid sap produced naturally by the rubber tree is poured into a mold following Talalay protocol and finally ventilated with hot aluminum pins (hence called: "pin-core" latex). However, this amazing sap from the rubber tree was first extracted by Mayan and Aztec civilizations to mold into shoes or to waterproof clothing. The harvesting of latex liquid sap has become a great source of income for indigenous peoples of South America. As advanced as the ancient Mayan and Aztec civilizations were, we believe we made history with our Nimble-Pedic^TM Latex Mattress as we endeavored to perfect and modernized the process for constructing a mattress from natural latex rubber.

Why is Talalay processing of liquid latex rubber the ideal way to make latex foam sleep products? Because latex is really a natural rubber and not true foam. It is inherently better for pressure relief and support than petroleum based foams like memory foam and poly foam.

What Makes our Mattress "Pure and Natural? All ingredients are derived from natural sources, are non-toxic and environmentally friendly. Our process is very clean and lends itself to form a product that is hypo-allergenic & void of any chemicals.
INGREDIENTS: natural fats, rubber tree sap(hevea brasiliensis milk), water and strong, natural non-toxic adhesives that consolidate and strengthen the foam.

Why are Nimble-Pedic Talalay Mattresses better suited for a restful sleep than those made from Dunlop Latex Foam? Actually, both processes are used to manufacture latex foam to be used in premium latex mattresses. And, in total these techniques produce the best of latex foam worldwide. One is the Dunlop Process and the other is the more sophisticated and more costly "Talalay" Process. Not always is the more expensive method better, but when it comes to your sleep quality, we feel that Talalay is superior to Dunlop..


What is the difference? Talalay Latex Mattress vs. Dunlop Latex Mattresses

1st-- the complexity of the each process is very different. The Dunlop Process takes approximately 1 hour to make a latex mattress core. The Talalay Process is a 14 hour endeavor. Why does this make a difference? Please read on...

2nd - sleep temperature and breathability of the mattress. Talalay latex is aerated and offers a more open cell structure. Talalay foam has almost 4 times the air flow in their foam and is therefore temperature neutral -- NEITHER COLD NOR HOT

3rd - ultimate pressure relieving characteristics: Dunlop latex is less flexible and we liken the feel to that of a pencil eraser vs. a plush, spongy feel that absorbs pressure-points seen in our Talalay latex mattress. Pressure point mapping would show at least a 30% improvement in the ability of Talalay latex to reduce pressure points when compared to Dunlop latex. WHY? Although both processes involve pouring liquid latex into a mold to form a latex mattress core, the Talalay process does this in a vacuum or airless environment. By pouring liquid latex in a vacuum, a more open and breathable cell structure is formed. This leads to....

4th-- consistent density throughout the core in Talalay latex: there is a clear difference in the subsequent process of converting the liquid into a solid state. This conversion is called "vulcanization" and happens by heating the liquid in an special oven and then letting it cool to harden. However, there is a very important step that differentiates the Talalay process from the Dunlop process. The Talalay process flash freezes the heated liquid, not allowing molecules to accumulate toward the bottom of the foam core. However, at Dunlop, they do not do such. Therefore, the bottom portion of the core has more density of molecules and therefore is harder than the upper portion.

5th-- Talalay latex much more durable than Dunlop: the vacuum pouring and flash freezing in the Talalay process produces a spherical shaped cell structure that is not compressed. This is not true in the Dunlop process. One might compare the fragility of the material by crushing something spherical, like a malt ball vs. flat like a cracker. It's a lot harder to crush a malt ball(Talalay) than a cracker(Dunlop).

6th-- Latex allergies and Hypoallergenic qualities: the Talalay process is a very clean process and produces a foam with minimal antigenic qualities (i.e. less allergy causing proteins). Talalay processing uses a 5-stage fresh water rinse to remove the allergens.

7th-- RESULTS & CONCLUSIONS: Talalay Beats the Competition..  two of the most important qualities to look for when determining the best mattress available are (1) pressure relief, and (2) support for the spine. Due to the larger, spherical cell structure in Talalay latex, the material reacts in 2 dimensions, whereby the flattened, smaller cell structure in Dunlop latex appears to make the material more densely packed and therefore less reactive and adaptive. In the opinion of the Back Be Nimble medical advisors, Dunlop does as well as Talalay for supporting the spine, but less for adapting to body curves and relieving pressure than the Talalay foam.
